What does ‘home’ mean to you?
We know it’s not mere bricks and mortar. It’s not four walls and a roof. ‘Home’ is a feeling. It’s your safety, your first place of learning, your comfort, and sanctuary from the rest of the world. There’s no place like it.
But what happens when your place of refuge suddenly becomes the site of trauma, fear, and horror? What is left of ‘home’ when, in a brutal display of force and fury, your father is taken away in handcuffs?
This is the reality for HHUGS families today. Home has become an empty shell housing loss and pain. In the aftermath of an arrest, it’s not just the physical home left in disarray. Single mothers are left with their children facing unimaginable challenges. The home has been shattered.
A secure and strong family home is the foundation of society. They are the rock that holds communities together and the foundation on which children thrive into thriving adults. The loss of a father, therefore, is more than the absence of a parent; it is to snatch away all the stability that the family unit ever knew.
With the main breadwinner gone, financial pressures build as mothers struggle to keep their home together. HHUGS provides financial, practical, and pastoral support for mothers, children and elderly parents left vulnerable. Often abandoned by their communities, they feel the emptiness in their homes more than ever. But we need your help to continue to provide critical support for families facing isolation within their four walls.
