Fuel poverty is blighting 2.5 million households in the UK, 50% of which have primary breadwinners in work. Among them are HHUGS families: single mothers, children without fathers, and elderly parents of sons in detention. These families have been isolated from their communities when they are most vulnerable and desperate. Most have minimal income, and have likely had their assets confiscated. Burdened by debts and harassed by bailiffs, they struggle to survive on the bare minimum throughout the year. Now with the onset of winter colds, they will be fighting hypothermia, exposure and sickness, on top of everything else.

Winter in the UK is a crippling season for our HHUGS families and I have taken the responsibility to raise £35,000 to support 35 families.

With your donation, £35,000 can provide food vouchers for 35 families until March.

In the UK two-fifths of people affected by fuel poverty had to choose between heating and eating, were forced to cut back on food or skip meals and left their oven door open after cooking to warm their homes.

Here is a testimony from one of our beneficiaries, "after paying rent, I'm left with nothing. I don't know when I've been shopping last. I would show you my kitchen cupboard now but I'm embarrassed. I have to remind myself to stop eating now because you don't have anything for tomorrow".
