This Ramadhan I’m aiming to raise £10,000 for HHUGS families, right here in the UK, who face poverty, ongoing trauma and isolation.
For most of us, Ramadhan is a time of family, gathering and the joy of community. In the homes of HHUGS families, however, Ramadhan is tinged with sadness and loss. When a father has been imprisoned, and life has turned upside down, Ramadhan brings with it a sharp reminder of all that has been lost.
The peace of the month carries a sadness and emptiness as iftar meals, tarawih prayers and Eid preparations all take place without the heart of the home: the father, husband and beloved son.
The financial burden makes preparing iftar that much harder. The social isolation hurts more in a month of togetherness. The stigma faced by having a family member imprisoned stings more sharply in a time meant for mercy.
This Ramadhan, respond to their silent cries with relief and hope.
I’m looking for 40 donors who can give £250 to provide food vouchers for a family this Ramadhan.
HHUGS provides us with an opportunity to fulfil the Sunnah of giving zakah to those closest to home. In the past
5 years they have distributed £2.4m zakah funds to local families,
£608k in the last year alone.
Your donations can provide:
- For £3000 support for a family for a year - you can relieve hunger with a food pack of essentials for £50 or for £250 for a month of food vouchers
- For £2000 alleviate the burden of debt for struggling women.
