The Race to Jannah is Back!
In Ramadhan, a small team of fundraisers joined together and took part in the Race to Jannah. For 30 days they promoted their JustGiving pages by any means - on WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, some even making videos and getting their parents involved in the fundraising. For many of the participants, the target seemed daunting; indeed some had never fundraised before. But with sincere intentions, du'a and the help of Allah they made it. Within 48 hours, people who had never fundraised prior to this, managed to collect £1000. They made images, they made videos; they reached out to friends and family, all in aid of some of the most vulnerable families in the UK.
And with their efforts they were able to raise an amazing total of £67,714!
With Dhul Hijjah around the corner, the Race to Jannah picks up speed as we are presented with another opportunity – even greater in virtue than Ramadhan, in which we are encouraged to do good:
The Prophet ﷺ said, “There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days.” The people asked, “Not even Jihad for the sake of Allah?” He said, “Not even Jihad for the sake of Allah, except in the case of a man who went out, giving himself and his wealth up for the cause (of Allah), and came back with nothing.” [Sahih Al-Bukhari]
Often overlooked, these first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah are in fact better than the last 10 days of Ramadhan (with the last 10 nights of Ramadhan being better than the first 10 nights of Dhul Hijjah)!
So this Dhul Hijjah, we ask you, to do your best and make an effort to raise £100 a day. In order to do this you will have full support of the HHUGS team who will you promotional materials and fundraising tips throughout the process. All it takes is letting your friends and family that you need 10 of them to donate £10.
And if £100 seems daunting, then we ask you to raise just £10 a day, so £100 over the whole of the first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah.
If neither £100 or £1000 suits you, you can set your own target above £100 - £250, £500 or £2000.
And if after you put in the effort, all the hard work, you aren't able to reach your target, then do not despair. As long you put in sincere effort, then you will be rewarded for your intention! So it’s a win-win situation!
So what is stopping you joining?
What is the challenge?
It’s pretty simple. We need 30 heroes or heroines to raise either £1,000 or £100 each this Dhul Hijjah. All your hard work will not only be counted as good deeds, allowing you to cover some much needed ground in the Race to Jannah, but it will also help us to restore hope and dignity to over 160 households impacted by the detention of a loved one.
What’s in it for me?
On every day, charity is due on each of our joints. That’s an even greater priority for us in Dhul Hijjah, one of the sacred months, undoubtedly one of the best times of the year to give.
Whilst we strive our best to fast the days, we inevitably fall short, but charity helps to patch up these shortcomings.
You may not have huge sums of money to give, but this challenge provides a golden opportunity for any individual to make a difference - whether you’re blessed with disposable income or otherwise.
What’s more, you’ll be rewarded for whatever your friends donate, without decreasing in their reward in the least.
“Whoever guides someone to virtue will be rewarded equivalent to him who practices that good action.” [Bukhari].
How can I raise the money?
£100 may seem daunting at first, but it’s really as simple as getting 10 friends donating £10, or 20 friends to give £5.
If that seems a piece of cake, you can set your heights on £1000 – that’s 20 friends donating £50.
The good thing is, there are so many ways to raise funds and Muslims are usually at their most generous during these days! So, this challenge is going to be easy. You can also set up a JustGiving page ( https://www.justgiving.com/hhugs) to collect your funds, or to make it that much easier, we can do that for you and even create a text giving code so that your friends and family can donate via SMS.
Remember to promote your JustGiving page through all your networks – be it email, Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, SMS, Instagram, or Snapchat!
If you’re not so social media savvy and prefer more traditional methods, you can simply request a penny box by calling 0207 733 2104 or emailing email@example.com
What if I don’t reach my target?
We’re confident with a bit of effort and with the help of Allah, you’ll easily raise whatever amount you set yourself.
When you purify your intention, tie your camel by making the effort, say Bismillah and make du’a that Allah blesses your efforts – have hope and trust in Him and you’ll surpass your target in no time.
If you’ve tried your best and ultimately don’t reach your target, then all is far from lost - you’ll be rewarded for whatever you do manage to raise and more than that, rewarded for your intentions in the best time of the year to give charity; so aim high, you won’t be disappointed and you’ve got nothing to lose!
